Ian Trail is the senior full time consultant in hand and upper limb surgery at Wrightington Hospital near Wigan and a part-time consultant at Pendlebury Children's Hospital in Manchester.
He has been honoured to be elected onto numerous prestigious boards and committees due to his specialist knowledge.
Currently he serves as Treasurer of the British Orthopaedic Association and is President Elect of the British Society of Surgery of the Hand for 2012.
Mr Trail was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer University of Manchester in 2009 and also privileged in being able to share his extensive experience with other keen young surgeons in his role as Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Manchester University.
His passion for his area of expertise is apparent from the substantial amount of research he has instigated and the widely utilised inventions he has designed.
Ian was educated at Cannon Slade School in Bolton and graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1978. He is married with four children and his hobbies include a lifelong passion for Rugby League and player involvement in several amateur Rugby Union clubs from schoolboy to veteran level. Now 'retired from the field' he spends his leisure time walking in the Lake District and pursuing his interest in history and steam trains.
